Kyle Jacobs, the husband of country music star Kellie Pickler, has died by apparent suicide at their Nashville-area home.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is investigating Jacobs' death, which occurred on Friday.

Pickler called 911 after she and her assistant could not open the upstairs bedroom door.

Jacobs was a successful songwriter who wrote hit songs for Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, and others.

The couple appeared on the reality show "I Love Kellie Pickler" in 2015.

Jacobs and Pickler celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary on New Year's Day.

Pickler co-wrote the title track of her 2013 album "The Woman I Am" with Jacobs.

Pickler rose to fame after finishing in the Top 6 of Season 5 of "American Idol" in 2006.

She also won Season 16 of "Dancing With the Stars" in 2013.
