Purchase of paddy by the government of West Bengal
The West Bengal state government plans to purchase about 45 quintals of paddy from each farmer. In FY 2019, the maximum paddy purchase increased to 90 quintals for each farmer at an MSP of Rs. 1,868 per quintal. The price of paddy this time has not yet been fixed. This will be done with the interest of the farmers in mind.

Objectives of the World Bank Kharif Paddy Supply Program 2022
The government of West Bengal plans to reach as many farmers as possible with the WB Kharif Paddy Supply Scheme 2022. With the rollout of the scheme, the government. aims to procure paddy to maintain an unimpeded supply of rice for our public distribution system. The government is considering capping the amount of paddy to be purchased from each farmer. This will help us enroll more and more farmers in this program.
Key Benefits for Paddy Beneficiaries
The government will also purchase about 45 quintals of paddy from each farmer. The maximum purchase was 90 quintals at an MSP of Rs 1,868 per quintal last year; the maximum supply to the MSP this year will be 45 quintals. The paddy prices on the market are well below the MSP, oscillating between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,300 per quintal.
Main features of the program
The government will provide free rice to around 10 million people in the state of West Bengal till June 2022. The government will start purchasing the remaining 22 lakh tons from the first week of May which will alleviate market pressures soon. . The state has announced the purchase of 52 lakh tons of paddy this year, of which 30 lakh tons have already been procured.
