In the previous financial year 2020, up to 10,873 girls belonging to Scheduled Caste benefited in the amount of Rs. 22 crores under the Ashirwad scheme. Muslim girls were in the list even in 2006, and if they were inadvertently left out, they should be added, CM told the relevant department. The latest increase will benefit 60,000 beneficiaries, placing an additional burden of Rs. 180 crores on the public purse, the statement said. To qualify for the benefit, the family’s annual income from all sources must not exceed Rs. 32,790. Parents/guardians of the girl must be domiciled in Punjab and financial assistance under this scheme is limited two daughters from the same family.
